Trivia[]

  • This is the first and only episode that features all of the original twenty main characters. However, this is only if one counts Flippy and Fliqpy as the same character. If not, Flippy is the only original main character who does not appear. It is also the first episode where he is shown already in his flipped-out state, though the cause is unknown.
  • This is Toothy's biggest starring role in an episode to date.
  • This episode marks Fliqpy's first death, assuming that he did not return to Flippy before the explosion.
  • This is one of the many episodes that takes place entirely at night. The others are This Is Your Knife, Out of Sight, Out of Mime, Remains to be Seen, Blind Date, Without a Hitch, Clause For Concern, No Time Like the Present, Going Out With a Bang, and Just Be Claus.
  • This is the first episode to have a winter version of the opening. The next Christmas opening is for We're Scrooged!. Coincidentally, Lumpy stars in both episodes.
  • This is the first Internet episode to be animated by FatKat.
  • This is the first episode where Nutty dies because of something that has nothing to do with his candy addiction.
  • This is the only time where Lumpy kills Fliqpy and dies in the same episode.
  • Cuddles is the only cast or crew member who had no part in causing the explosion.
  • This episode makes Disco Bear the eighteenth character to come back to life for another episode.
  • Russell is the main character with the least appearances in this episode, as he cannot be seen at all until the end of the episode. Even then, the only signs of his being there are his hook holding Giggles' hand near the end of the episode and his distinctive silhouette after that.
  • While Flaky is falling, The Cursed Idol can be seen sitting on a shelf in the background, in just one frame. It may have been the cause of all of the injuries and the school exploding.

    "Did you catch me?"

  • When the characters start holding hands, each of the three female characters is shown holding hands with another character.
  • This is the first time both Nutty's and Sniffles' deaths are caused by other main characters.
  • Cub's scream is reused from It's a Snap.
  • This could be considered the darkest episode of the Internet series due to the high number of deaths.
  • This is the first and only time Flippy and Splendid are in an episode together. Splendid flies in at the end, while Fliqpy is stabbing a Tree Friend.
  • The characters who act and/or direct the school play are the five most frequent HTF characters: Cuddles, Giggles, Toothy, Lumpy and Sniffles.
  • Cuddles, Giggles, Sniffles, Toothy, Lumpy, Nutty, The Mole, Lifty, Shifty, and Flaky (the Tree Friends working the play) are the main characters in this episode who are not simply making background cameos. The other half of the main characters do, however, but not until the fire begins. Petunia is seen screaming during the fire; Disco Bear, Pop, Cub, and Handy (along with some other characters from earlier) are seen injured after the fire; Fliqpy is seen stabbing a Generic Tree Friend to death; Cro-Marmot is seen standing in the distance; Mime tries to cheer up a Generic Tree Friend with a balloon without success; Splendid is seen flying in when Toothy starts singing; and Russell is seen joining hands with Giggles at the end, seconds before the school explodes.
  • Some characters are noticeable in the shadows just by shape when they start singing (ex: Lumpy, Handy, Russell, Shifty, Mime, etc).
  • When Toothy begins singing outside the school, Giggles' eyes on her severed face move to look at him.
  • Cuddles weakly raises his hand in the shot featuring The Mole, Pop, and Cub after the fire, signifying that he survived being forced through his costume's face hole.
  • This is the first episode where all of the four main bear characters (Pop, Cub, Disco Bear, and Flippy) appear.
  • Cuddles and Giggles suffer injuries involving the face holes in their respective costumes.
  • When the school explodes, Cuddles' Christmas tree outfit can be seen flung into the air.
  • This is Splendid's first and only death in an internet episode.
  • This is one of the few episodes in which Lifty and Shifty do not steal anything.
  • This was the last episode where Mark Giambruno provided the voices for Lifty and Shifty.
  • This is the only episode in which Splendid neither saves nor kills anybody.
  • This is one of the few episodes where Lifty and Shifty show concern for each other; Shifty seems to be trying to help or get help for Lifty when part of the latter's body is cut off.
  • This is one of the few episodes where Lifty and Shifty help other characters, the other times being Easy Comb, Easy Go, Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark, and Claw.
  • This is one of the few episodes in which Pop is missing his pipe all the way through.
  • This episode has the highest number of confirmed deaths.
  • This is considered by many fans to be one of the best episodes of Happy Tree Friends.
  • This is one of the many episodes where a character makes "Puppy Eyes". The other instances are Lumpy and Russell in Get Whale Soon, Toothy in Better Off Bread, Nutty in Icy You, Petunia, Giggles, and Lumpy in Stealing the Spotlight, Flaky in Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya!, Lumpy in In a Jam, Lifty in Easy For You to Sleigh, Lumpy in Letter Late than Never, Fliqpy in Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow, Sniffles in Wrath of Con, and Lumpy in All In Vein and in Aw, Shucks!.
  • This is one of the many episodes to be remastered for the Blurb version.
  • This is the only time Splendid physically appears and has an appearance role instead of a starring role. Similarly, this is the only time that Splendid appears but the episode doesn't focus mostly around him (excluding times his likeness is on merchandise).
  • This is one of the only two cases of Lifty and Shifty interacting with Flaky, the other being Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark.
  • Almost every character in this episode suffers at least one injury. The only characters who are not injured at all are Fliqpy, Splendid, Russell, and Cro-Marmot.
  • When everyone is running from the fire inside the school, Pop can be seen tripping over one of Cuddles' severed ears while holding Cub, and when he falls over, he accidentally drops Cub on the star, which explains how it got on Cub in the first place.
  • This is the first lethal explosion in the entire series.
  • Flaky's moaning outside the school is sampled from Giggles' moaning in Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark after she gets stung by a jellyfish.
  • The opening and end credits in the Classics Remastered version of this episode use the Season 3 onwards opening and end credits instead of the Season 2 opening and end credits (this is also the case on the Blurb version and on the Complete Disaster DVD). So, this is the only episode of the series that its version of Classics Remastered has the intro and credits of Season 3 onwards, while the rest has the intro and credits of its respective season.
  • Despite everybody else paying attention to Toothy's singing near the end, Fliqpy does not look up from his stabbing of a Generic Tree Friend. His casual appearances being extremely rare, it is hard to believe that this is an oversight. This is likely due to his cruel personality.

Production Notes[]

  • According to the staff, this episode was supposed to be as special as possible.
  • The crew has said on the commentary for this episode that they gave Cuddles' and Giggles' injuries nicknames. They refer to the former as "Pizza Face" and to the latter as "Slinky Face."
  • On the Third Strike DVD, a behind-the-scenes feature called "Follow the Yellow Rabbit" shows that the school was redesigned multiple times. And for comedic humor, the notes claim that the bell has an engraving that reads "Class of '76 rocks!"
