Trivia

Trivia[]

  • Flippy making graves for the characters who die is a running gag for a little more than half the episode.
  • This is the first episode to premiere in 2002.
  • This is the first episode where Handy has a starring role but does not do his signature scowl (unless one counts the face he makes when he is looking at Flaky angrily and debatedly when Flippy is pounding down Flaky's grave).
  • This episode is notable for showing the first depiction of murder among the main cast members (not counting Fliqpy). To be exact, Flippy, Handy, Sniffles and Lumpy gang up on Flaky for popping the inflatable raft with her quills.
  • This episode, You're Bakin' Me Crazy, Tongue Twister Trouble, Sweet Ride, It's a Snap, Off the Hook, Spare Me, Snow What? That's What!, This Is Your Knife, Happy Trails Pt. 1, Ten Speed, and Eleventh Hour have an age-restriction on YouTube. It is also the only Season 2 episode to be age-restricted.
  • Lumpy, Handy, Sniffles, and Flippy all have out-of-character moments in this episode (their situation might explain why). None of them would purposefully kill a character just for making a mistake (Debatable, as Flippy might have not flipped out at the time). However, Lumpy has been antagonistic at times and is willing to kill another character for his own gain in rare cases. It is also against Sniffles, Handy, and Flippy's character to throw Lumpy out of the rocket instead of more objects, though Handy has been shown multiple times to not care if a character has died.
    • This is also the first (and only) time to date where Flippy (intentionally) kills another character (without flipping out). It is also the only time he gets help from someone else (Lumpy, Handy, and Sniffles) to do so, and the first time a character (Handy and Sniffles) intentionally kill another main character.
  • This is one of the ten Season 2 episodes with no quick shot moment in it. The others are Out of Sight, Out of Mime, The Way You Make Me Wheel, Better Off Bread, Water Way to Go, Hello Dolly, Stealing the Spotlight, Ski Ya, Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya!, and Suck It Up.
  • This is the only episode in which Lifty and Shifty star without killing another character or doing anything else antagonistic.

Who would have thought that the raccoons could be so generous?

  • This episode makes Giggles the first character to die in the second Internet season.
  • This episode marks the first instance of Sniffles inventing something.
  • This is one of the few episodes where Lifty and Shifty (try to) help other characters (the others being Easy Comb, Easy Go, Class Act, and Claw).
  • This is one of only four regular episodes (as well the first) in which Lumpy kills another character intentionally, the others being All In Vein, Dunce Upon a Time, and We're Scrooged!
  • If one looks closely at the back of the bus in the first shot of the episode, the window is broken, and there is blood around it. It is possible that was how Toothy was flung out of the bus in the first part.
  • Despite the numerous deaths in the series, this is one of the few times where the consequence of death is explored.
  • This is one of the few episodes where the characters sing the show's theme song. The others are This Is Your Knife, Happy Trails Pt. 1, From A to Zoo, and Take a Hike.
  • All of the deaths in this episode are either bloodless or off-screen (although Lifty and Shifty's deaths are onscreen, only their silhouettes are seen), except at the end when Sniffles' head explodes - this is a good example of how Sniffles tends to suffer more gruesome deaths compared to most of the other characters.
  • Since Cuddles-Giggles and Handy-Petunia are the most frequently paired characters as a couple on the show, it makes sense that Giggles and Handy would be mourning Petunia and Cuddles' deaths together.
  • This episode marks Flippy and Fliqpy's first death in the series.
  • If you count Flippy and Fliqpy as different characters, this is Flippy’s only antagonistic role in the series, as he, and the gang killed Flaky for popping the raft.
  • When Lumpy, Flippy, Handy and Sniffles are in the rocket, Flippy sports Flaky's frown.
  • A Happy Tree Friends HTML5 game named Strandead is based on this episode.
  • During the credits, the water can be seen moving.
  • This episode has the highest number of starring characters, with eight of them.
  • This episode marks the first time in the series where Earth is seen from space. It is also the only time the solar system is shown.

Cultural References[]

  • The phrase "jumping the shark" is an idiom used to describe the moment a television show begins to decline in quality, signaled by a particular scene or episode in which the writers use some type of gimmick in an attempt to keep viewers' interest.

Superlatives[]

Production Notes[]

  • It has been rumored that in a deleted scene, the gang killed Flaky onscreen, and that the scene was cut for being too gruesome. However, according to a tweet made by Kenn Navarro, he stated that they didn't plan out Flaky's death scene, and Flaky's unseen death was intended to be a mystery.
  • In the storyboard, Sniffles' head does not explode as the rocket got closer to the sun.
  • Throughout the episode, Flippy has Pop's voice. This is because Pop was originally supposed to star in this episode, but the writers thought that it would be too out of character for Pop to kill Flaky, and for Pop to appear without Cub. They replaced him with Flippy (since both characters are voiced by Aubrey Ankrum, even though Pop has a much deeper voice) at the last moment after all of the voices were recorded. As a result, this is the only episode where Flippy does not flip out in any capacity.
  • This is the second episode with an increased framerate (12 frames per second) as opposed to Season 1's standard of 8 frames per second (with the only exception being Crazy Ant-ics).
