Two green kleptomaniac raccoon identical twin brothers. They frequently steal merchandise from the other Happy Tree Friends, as well as treasure hunting, ransacking houses or anything to get rich quick with the exception of Flaky, Cro-Marmot and Splendid. They haven't stolen from Nutty, but they did tradr magical jellybeans for his cow. They mostly steal from Lumpy - in Meat Me for Lunch they stole meat from Lumpy's deli mart, in Milkin' It they stole a cow from Lumpy's farm, in Concrete Solution they stole his wallet, and in Junk in the Trunk they abducted his pet elephant.

Although they have the same markings, bushy tails, personality and voice, Shifty wears a fedora, and he bosses Lifty around. It is unknown which of them is older and the other the younger. Despite the smirks on their faces and their kleptomania, they almost always end up perishing in the process. Their green color implies money and greed relating to their 'criminal duo' personalities. They also have a trademark evil snigger (usually a different one for further episodes). Like most siblings, Lifty and Shifty argue about who's fault is this, but when trouble's afoot, they work together. Both twins are pretty greedy and sometimes resort to seeing their twin die rather than give up their loot or be caught(it is unknown if Shifty does this all or if Lifty does too), as seen in Milkin' It when Shifty threw Lifty out the the hot air balloon as not to get caught by the cable. And in "Sea What I Found" when Shifty had a chance to save Lifty, but instead he just stole his jewels.

However, they do mix with other characters and contribute to recreational activities (such as going on a rollercoaster and participating in a Christmas play) without causing any trouble. Rarely they earn cash honestly and have even been heroic, such as in Happy Trails Pt. 2, when they provided a life raft to help the characters escape from an island.

Lifty & Shifty rarely make money by themselves without stealing, like they sold dogs who get crazy when they hear whistling in Doggone It and where they sold bottles of hair growth formula to Disco Bear in Easy Comb, Easy Go. Nutty is the only character who they usually sell things to like in Dunce Upon a Time and the False Alarm episode.

Lifty & Shifty die a lot due to their lack of teamwork or by greed. Like Cuddles, Petunia, and Sniffles they tend to die some of the messiest deaths in the series. In the Internet shorts Lifty & Shifty died in every episode they appeared in. While they still die a lot in the TV series, the only episodes they survived in are Ipso Fatso, Concrete Solution and Easy Comb, Easy Go.

In the "Collect Them All" section, Lifty bowls a 300 score at the game of bowling, and Shifty has a gambling problem.

• From one scene in Kringle Feast, it is unknown whether it was Lifty, Shifty or Flippy who died from the gas leak that came from the kitchen, and there's also a possibility that Flippy's the one who died there. But in other cases, it could be possible that the character sitting at the table with Cuddles and Toothy was some generic tree friend.
• In Shifty's MySpace Profile, it explains in Shifty's marital status that he is currently in a relationship, though this may be a typographical error, that the user accidentally clicked that option, or that it may be a true fact, but no one supports this opinion whether this is true.
• Sometimes, Shifty can be seen with his hat removed and look like his twin brother Lifty in Wheelin' and Dealin', Stealing the Spotlight, Who's to Flame?, Sea What I Found, As You Wish! and Junk in the Trunk.
• Lifty & Shifty are Splendid's arch-nemeses as seen in Gems the Breaks.
